This year, Kansas City’s two most iconic haunts, The Beast and Edge of Hell, are breaking with decades of tradition. Instead of opening in September, they’re running an October-only season packed into just 13 nights.
The reason has nothing to do with ghosts: September in Kansas City has simply gotten too hot. The un-air-conditioned century-old warehouses these haunts live in became dangerous for costumed actors climbing multiple floors all night, so Full Moon Productions moved the entire season into cooler October.

Most of Kansas City’s legendary haunted houses are clustered in the West Bottoms, the historic warehouse district just west of downtown.
