Things to Do in Kansas City in October (2026 Guide)

By Things to Do in Kansas City Sep 29, 2026 4 min read

October might be the best month of the year in Kansas City. The heat finally breaks, the leaves start to turn, and the calendar fills up fast with festivals, haunted houses, pumpkin patches and a Chiefs home game.

So what’s actually worth your time? Here are the best things to do in Kansas City in October 2026, with dates so you can plan every weekend.

October 2026 at a glance
  • Oct. 2-3: KC Oktoberfest at Crown Center
  • Oct. 2-31: The Beast & Edge of Hell (13 select nights)
  • Oct. 3-4: Weston Applefest and Louisburg Ciderfest
  • Oct. 9-25: Fall American Royal Livestock Show
  • Oct. 17: Garmin KC Marathon and Taps & Tastes
  • Oct. 18: Chiefs vs. Chargers at Arrowhead
  • Oct. 23-25: Outlaw Days in the Power & Light District
  • Oct. 24-25: Boo at the Zoo

Get Scared in the West Bottoms

No October in KC is complete without a trip to The Beast and Edge of Hell, the legendary haunted houses in the West Bottoms. This year is different, though. For their 52nd season, both haunts are open in October only, packed into just 13 nights because the old brick warehouses got too hot to run in September.

The 2026 dates are:

  • Oct. 2-3
  • Oct. 9-10
  • Oct. 15-17
  • Oct. 22-24
  • Oct. 29-31

With fewer nights, expect bigger crowds. Buy tickets online ahead of time, especially for Fridays and Saturdays. Opening weekend also lines up with Boo in the Bottoms (Oct. 2-4), a daytime festival with shopping, music and costumed characters, so you can make a full day and night of it.

Pumpkin Patches and Fall Farm Days

If you’d rather keep things cozy, the pumpkin patches around KC are in full swing all month.

  • Carolyn’s Country Cousins (Liberty, MO): A longtime local favorite open Thursday through Monday until Oct. 31. Don’t leave without the pumpkin donuts.
  • Louisburg Cider Mill (Louisburg, KS): The Family Farm runs through Nov. 1 with a 10-acre corn maze, wagon rides and fresh apple cider donuts.
  • KC Pumpkin Patch (Olathe, KS): The big one for kids, with 60-plus attractions and open Friday through Sunday in October.

Weekday visits are usually calmer if your schedule allows it.

Fall Festivals Worth the Trip

KC Oktoberfest (Oct. 2-3)

Crown Center turns Bavarian for two days of KC Bier Co. beer, European food, games and live entertainment. An easy one to kick off the month.

Weston Applefest and Louisburg Ciderfest (Oct. 3-4)

Same weekend, two classic small-town fall festivals. Pick your direction: north to Weston or south to Louisburg.

Missouri Town Fall Festival (Oct. 3-4)

The Fall Festival of Arts, Crafts and Music at Missouri Town Living History Museum in Lee’s Summit hits its 50th year. Think wagon rides, reenactments and crafts in an 1850s village. Admission is by the carload.

Taps & Tastes (Oct. 17)

Boulevard Brewing and the KC Current are bringing this one back at Current Landing on the riverfront, with craft breweries, distilleries and chefs from across Kansas and Missouri.

Kansas City Renaissance Festival (through Oct. 18)

Weekends only, and October is your last chance for turkey legs and jousting until next year.

Sports and Big Events

  • Chiefs vs. Chargers (Oct. 18): The Chiefs’ only home game this October, a 3:25 p.m. kickoff at Arrowhead. Tailgate accordingly.
  • Garmin Kansas City Marathon (Oct. 17): Run it, cheer it on, or just plan around the road closures that morning.
  • Outlaw Days (Oct. 23-25): The Kansas City Outlaws bring bull riding to T-Mobile Center, with a free fanfest, live music and line dancing in the Power & Light District.
  • Fall American Royal Livestock Show (Oct. 9-25): A deep-rooted KC tradition that’s worth a look if you’ve never been.

Family-Friendly Halloween Fun

For the little ones, Boo at the Zoo (Oct. 24-25) is the move. Kids come in costume and trick-or-treat their way around the Kansas City Zoo. Grown-ups get their own zoo night earlier in the month at Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too on Oct. 11.

A Few Tips for October in KC

  • Mid-month is packed. Oct. 17-18 has the marathon, Taps & Tastes and the Chiefs game back to back. Plan parking and traffic early.
  • Dress in layers. October afternoons can feel like summer and nights can get chilly fast.
  • Buy ahead. Haunted houses, pumpkin patches and festivals often sell tickets online, and weekends fill up.

That’s just the start. Dates and details can change, so check each event’s official site before you head out. For even more ideas this month, browse all upcoming Kansas City events and start filling up your October.
