Kansas City throws itself a birthday party on 816 Day, an all-day block party at KC Live! celebrating everything KC on its namesake date. Running 11am to 9pm, the free, all-ages bash packs the day with live music, brass bands, DJs, dance battles, trivia, local vendors, and a “Rep Your District” moment with city leaders. Highlights include a brunch party to kick things off, the Back Alley Brass Band, a Street Style Academy dance battle, and the Marcus Lewis Brass and Boujie Band, before the whole crowd raises a glass for the official “Toast to 816” at 8:16pm. Bars around the district run $8.16 food and drink specials all day. It’s the ultimate hometown celebration downtown.
